It's strange how a song can be born many years before it's written and you never really know it's happening. I shall explain...
I had a meeting with a record executive about doing some writing for his artists. He listened to my stuff and suggested I check out The Click Five record his label was getting ready to release. I threw the record in my backseat and forgot about it. My daughter saw the album, must have thought the guys were cute, and asked if we could listen in the car one day. Reluctantly, I put it in and wound up loving it. My daughter (at 5) then becomes obsessed and learns every word of the record inside and out. The Click Five then comes to Jammin' Java. Knowing the story of my daughter's cute little obsession with them, Jammin' Java let's me open the show. Afterwards Click Five bassist tracks me down and asks if I'd be interested in writing with his friend Mitch Hood who lives ust north of me in Harrisburg, PA. I spend a weekend with Mitch and it goes well. Ethan then joins in and the three of us write "Too Late Tonight."
It took a record exec, a 5 year old, a music venue and a long, long time but that's how this one came to be.
Ethan Mentzer played baritone guitar, bass and tambourine
Micah Wilshire mixed.
