Leave It All Behind

Leave It All Behind ( 3/31/10 )

Leave It All Behind started as a game. Every few months I do a songwriter's circle at Jammin' Java in Vienna with three other friends and writers. We decided it might be cool to pick a title and each write our own song from it. This way we could show the audience the difference in each writer's interpretation of said title. I came up with "Leave It All Behind" and texted it to the other guys with a MONTH before the show.
We all procrastinated and wound up writing our songs the DAY of the next show. I picked up the guitar that day completely stressed out about being unprepared and spit this song out in a matter of five minutes. Interestingly enough when I played it that night I kinda liked it. I later played it for my friend Tom Drummond when I was down in New Orleans working on a project with him. He loved it as a potential song for our thing and we worked on it for a while and then put it away.
The version I've recorded this week is entirely reworked from the NOLA version and I've added a bridge that I just sort of made up on the fly yesterday. This is the first 40x40 song where I've played everything myself. Be gentle,

Micah Wilshire mixed.
